A UHPC tension impact experiment at a strain rate of 150/sec (approaching blast rate) recorded at the rate of 1,000,000 exposures per second. Steel fibers play a critical role in the material's toughness, which is its ability to dissipate impact energy. If you look closely you can see a steel fiber vibrating after exhausting its ability to 'hold' the material together. UHPC reinforced with the highly effective Type X HiPer steel fibers is especially well suited for impact and blast applications.
