September 2022: To our knowledge, Clare County, Michigan, hosts the first bridge in the nation with a UHPC deck made entirely from off-the-shelf components (open recipe UHPC) and composite with a steel tub girder. The UHPC was mixed in a truck by a contractor with no prior experience. The bridge, which opened last month, features a novel composite system, in which steel tub girders are composite with a superthin, ribbed UHPC deck. The ultra-lightweight and ultra-durable composite girders were cast in a plant, installed in place, then joined via truck-mixed, open recipe UHPC closure pours. The UHPC for the project was made with HiPer Fiber steel fibers.
