The surface striations of HiPer fibers optimize the bond between the steel fiber and UHPC. . This allows the UHPC to achieve higher blast and impact resistance and dramatically boosts the damage tolerance of the UHPC.

The video below shows a UHPC specimen impacted at 150/sec (approaching blast strain rate). The video, which was taken at a frame rate of 1M frames per second, shows the progression of the impact event and how the fiber is interacting with the UHPC as it is subjected to rapid tensile loading.


The damage tolerance of UHPC due to the use of steel fibers is clear in the picture below which shows missile impact on a plain UHPC specimen (on the right) and how that compares to another reinforced with steel fibers.
